Today started a little later than planned following obligatory photos by THE sign. Unfortunately we were too early so could not personalise our sign at the bottom of the country. We started in cool conditions and occasional drizzle but the day gradually warmed and layers were stripped off. Penzance bay with St Michael’s Mount was a highlight – despite the rough track surface.
The route was great starting on Route 3, vearing off to avoid Taunton but generally riding on National cycle routes, through small lanes. The group had to deal with two punctures early on but these did not slow us down too much. Our support guys met us with welcome snacks every 20ish miles and as the lunch venue turned out to be less than inviting we all decided to ride on to the hotel. Only another 13 miles but the hilliest miles of the entire day. We were relieved to reach our destination and ensures we were able to have dinner earlier than planned. Bed now beckons – and we will all be setting off for more of the same tomorrow.
Congratulations on completing your first day! X
